Smells and Sounds

A list of the smells and sounds around Las Vegas and our house this weekend:

• Harleys - yes the bikes....Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally this weekend

• Bikini and Beer Belly Contest....at the Plaza Hotel last night...we didn't enter or even go to it. I'm sure it was "interesting". Part of the RRMR weekend

• Rain....thunderstorms yesterday....a gentle, nearly all-day rain today so the sound of water running into our tanks is welcome.

• Dogs Barking.....Roadie is visiting Fri/Sat and he and Levi run and play and bark and then collapse and take another nap.

• Humming.....birds....the babies must be out of the nest and learning how to find food...we've had about 10-12 of those lovely, peaceful, quiet little birds at our feeders all day. The older ones are still yakking it up and fighting with each other but the little ones are sitting on the feeder very nicely and eating. Whoever said hummingbirds are quiet has not been very close to them. 

• Pine....the smell of the pine trees wafts over us as we head out the door after the rain....all we need is a lake!

• Fresh bread....since it was cool today, I made a couple of loaves of our favorite home-made white bread. Nothing better with butter and jam! Better than any smell from Glade!

• Train whistles....Amtrak comes thru Las Vegas twice a day on the way from/to Chicago/Los Angeles and when the wind is right, we hear the train whistle as it passes by. Someday we will take the train to Chicago and spend a weekend at the art institute etc.

• Tea kettle boiling....hot water ready for an afternoon cup of tea!
