Oh my goodness....it's been a couple of months or more since i wrote...where does time go? The weather is changing here...no more hot days...but it's been running about 70 or so....gorgeous clear blue skies, fluffy clouds (if any) and the trees have pretty much dropped their leaves. I don't mind that so much as the short days and long nights. And this weekend daylight saving times ends...
Gene finally came home from Seattle after spending nearly three weeks working on the house. But it paid off when we put it on the market and sold it the first day for $10,000 over asking price. Closed on October 10th. No mortgage on either house now.....great feeling. I'm spening part of the profits (which, of course, are not as much as they would have been a couple years ago) on new appliances for the NM house. Dishwasher, Refrigerator and Range. Wish we coudl afford to redo the whole kitchen but not really worth doing here....I will admit I miss the green granite countertops and double ovens. Oh well, I'm thankful I'll finally have a dishwasher. So the house sale was wonderful...we were very blessed to have great renters over the last two years and a fabulous real estate agent - we are so fortunate.
Gene left again in early October for two weeks in Minnesota, mainly to attend his 50th high school class reunion. I was going to go along but someone had to stay here and handle the paperwork for the house sale. But he had a good time and got to see all of his family in MN and lots of "old" friends too. He drove his new car up there and enjoyed the drive. Was tired when he got back but seems to have recuperated just fine.
Life goes on here. We still have Reily and she is a darling. Such a beautiful Labrador. We are dreading the 17th of February, as that is the day we will turn her back to CCI for Advanced Training. Will take her back to California and she and Ojai, her sister who is also here in LV, will head off to be trained as assistance dogs. How we hope they will both get qualified. If she does not graduate, will we take her back? Not sure yet.....she's such fun but also such a responsibiltiy. We'll cross that bridge later.
Girls Night Out again tongiht here in the neighborhood!! Last month about 10-12 of us met in Santa Fe and spent Friday night at a neat B&B/Inn and had a great time. It was cold and rainy on Friday night so sitting by the kiva fireplace and drinking wine and talking without a curfew was such fun. Satruday morning we met for breakfast and then headed out to play tourist in SF. Hit the Farmers' Market first and then headed down near the Plaza to shop and sightsee and eat. It snowed Saturday night but melted quickly even though the stuff in the mountains stayed. Great day. I stayed over Saturday night also and went to the Folk Art Museum on Sat before coming home. We're thinking we might do this again and spend the whole weekend over there towards the end of January. We'll figure that out but tonight I'm sure we'll talk about how nice it was to leave home and have fun with the girls!!
Hey Linda! Great to get caught up with you. We were sure sorry to miss Gene when he was in town. Jean told us your house had sold; bet you're glad to have it gone, even though it was such a nice place. Being long distance landlords is tough. Sounds like you're really settled in now. We still miss you in our alto section though. Did Jean tell you that Catherine and Brent are expecting? A boy, in January! Take care. And hugs to both of you.
