As Time Goes By.....

Time certainly does get away from me....can't believe it's been so long since I wrote in this blog. Of course, nothing too exciting has happened. We have had a couple of rains but definitely not the monsoons we are hoping for. The big fire near Las Alamos is still burning but mostly under containment. Thankfully the lab and city were not affected. The rain we've had has been nice rain but not enough...at least the nights are cooling off which is good for sleeping but still hot during the day. Got our air conditioner put back in yesterday so we can take the worst of the heat out in the afternoons.

Levi and Reily and Ojai had a good time on Wednesday at Reily and Ojai's first birthday party. Running around the back yard, playing in the puppy pool, and eating home made doggie treats...frosty paws....peanut butter, honey, yogurt and bananas. Yum....good enough for people to eat. Hard to believe our little girls are already a year old. It'll be a year on Sept 15th that we got them....such little things and now they are long-legged and weight about 53-55 lbs. Not much quilting getting done in the heat....thinking about it but doing it is another task  - but at least my sewing room is a bit cleaner and more organized.

Heading to Santa Fe tomorrow for adult dog food for Reily and to start my search for a new refrigerator...with bottom freezer. The one we have now is just too small and old...need more space for frozen stuff and an ice maker will be nice. 

Gene will be leaving for Seattle in a few weeks to start work on our house there so we can put it on the market. Probably not the best time to sell but for tax purposes we need to do it and it just doesn't make sense anymore to hold on to it. Thankfully our wonderful renters have agreed to stay until it's sold. We dropped their rent a little to compensate them for being disturbed during "construction" and then the listing time.... Gene will drive up there and I'll stay home with the kids....and the gardens...and work. Sure will be quiet around here without him...and lonesome...but we'll survive. He's staying with friends and has a buddy who will help him with anything that needs to be done. Our real estate agent is going to let us know soon what really needs to be done (praying that it won't cost a fortune) and then she'll stage it a bit and then we'll bury St Joseph in the front yard and wait for a buyer!!

Gene's gardens are doing great...the greenhouse has provided us with lots of salad greens that are so much better than the "boughten" stuff. And the corn and pumpkin patch is growing by the proverbial leaps and bounds. We had a few days where he could not water it due to moving tanks around, but now that the drip system is back working and we've had some rain, things are looking much better. He's put up rabbit fencing around all the gardens so that has helped too....don't ask how we know!!

Off to fill the hummingbird feeders....those little birds certainly do suck up the nectar....we have two feeders and about 15-20 birds in the evening before the sun sets.....they are such noisy things...I always thought hummers were quiet but NO...they sound like jet airplanes. And they are feisty creatures too. But fun to see them all.
